What is the Jeep Wave?
The Jeep Wave is a friendly gesture shared between fellow Jeep vehicle owners to show a sign of respect and acknowledgement.

How the Jeep Wave Originated
The origin of the wave isn’t exact, but there are a few different theories to how it started.
Theory #1: During WWII Jeeps were used as a way of transporting supplies and wounded soldiers on the front line. Soldiers would wave to show that they are an ally and not the enemy. They would also wave as a friendly gesture from one soldier to the next.
Theory #2: When soldiers returned home from the war they began to purchase Jeeps of their own. They would wave as a sign of acknowledgement of fellow veterans.
Theory #3: Jeeps became more popular for civilians to buy in the 60’s and 70’s as recreational use. Jeepers would then start to wave to acknowledge those who share the same passion as them.
How to do the Wave
Drivers can achieve the wave by raising their thumb, index, and middle finger off the steering wheel in the direction of another Jeeper.

Other forms of waving are acceptable and commonly used. Such as raising 2 or 4 fingers or a full hand wave. If Jeepers have the windows down or the top off they may put their hand outside the vehicle as a sign of acknowledgement. Regardless, any sign of acknowledgement will be appreciated by another Jeeper and they will return the gesture more often than not.
Rules
With every fun game, comes a set of rules, and Jeeps are no different.
Rule #1: Jeep owners must continue the tradition.
Jeep owners past and present, want to see their friendly gesture carried on to the next generation of Jeepers.
Rule #2: In the Jeep world, there is a hierarchy, and the inferior Jeep always initiates the first wave.
The Jeep hierarchy is determined by how well your Jeep fits the purpose that Jeeps were originally intended for. This means that age, model, trim level, and accessories all play a role in determining the hierarchy.
Rule #3: Inferior Jeep owners continue waving until acknowledged and superior Jeep owners then return the gesture.
Is it Only for Wranglers?
When you hear “Jeep”, your first thought is probably of the Wrangler model, but the wave exchanged between jeepers is for all models. This includes:
Jeep Wave Customer Loyalty Program
With Jeep’s secret wave becoming popularized, Jeep decided to name their customer loyalty program after it, the Jeep Wave Customer Care. Included in the program is a 36 month membership where Jeep owners will receive free oil changes, tire rotations, and many other perks.
Certified Pre-Owned vs Used Vehicles
What is the Difference Between Used & Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles?
Buying a vehicle can seem like a daunting task, but learning the difference between used and certified pre-owned can help with a car buyer’s peace of mind. For a lot of customers in the vehicle market, they want a car that will get them from point A to point B. Typically, they will be looking for a vehicle they can rely on and will not cost them too much. Now, car buyers really have 3 options when it comes to purchasing a vehicle; new, used, and certified pre-owned. This article will walk through the perks of the three and used vs certified pre-owned.
New Vehicle
New Vehicles can be very tempting. Many drivers like knowing that they are the only one to drive their vehicle, even if that means pulling a little extra money out of their wallet. Even though the price can be steep, buying a new car has its perks. For starters, new car buyers don’t have to deal with the evaluation process of a used or CPO vehicle, since it is in perfect condition. With new cars, dealers will often offer better interest rates and incentives through the negotiation process. Another benefit being newer vehicles usually come equipped with updated technology and safety features.
Used Vehicles
Used vehicles are most popular for their depreciation. When a new vehicle is driven off the lot it immediately loses some of its original value, and these deals can be hard to pass up. Although used vehicles don’t necessarily receive a full multi-point inspection, they can still be purchased with an extended warranty and prices can often be negotiated on used cars. Lum’s Auto Center’s used vehicles are a great option for prospective car buyers!
Certified Pre-Owned
Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles are partially used vehicles that have been thoroughly inspected and repaired if needed by trained professionals, then covered by a manufacturer-backed extended warranty. CPO’s will typically have less issues, less miles, and less repairs than a used vehicle. Certified pre-owns are a great way to get a newish car without paying a heavy price. Two year old pre-owns drop around 25% in price, while 4 year pre-owns can drop as much as 40% in price. They will always cost more than a non-certified vehicle because of the special perks offered alongside it.
What Makes a Vehicle Certified Pre-Owned?
Each OEM has different standards for what classifies one of their vehicles as a CPO. Standard CPOs go through a multi-point inspection, are only a certain number of years old, and are below a certain mileage. Benefits and advantages on top of that can vary between OEMs and dealerships.

Toyota Certified Used Vehicle (TCUV)
Toyota Certified Used Vehicles go through rigorous testing to qualify as a TCUV. Qualifying models can be a current year model vehicle or up to 6 year old model vehicles. Qualifying vehicles must have less than 85,000 miles, go through a CARFAX vehicle history report, then pass Toyota’s 160-point inspection. Different OEMs will offer different advantages or packages with the CPOs. Toyota, for example, offers:
- 12 month/12,000 mile limited comprehensive warranty (whichever occurs first)
- 7 year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty.
- 1 year of roadside assistance
- Standard new car financing rates available
- Trade-ins accepted
Ford Certified Used Vehicles
Similar to Toyota’s certified used vehicle program, Ford offers two certified vehicle levels of their own, blue & gold certified. Blue certified is Ford’s lower end program with qualifying vehicles being no more than 10 years old and no more than 120,000 miles, while passing a 139-point inspection.
Qualifying gold certified vehicles must pass a 172-point inspection while maintaining less than 80,000 and being 6 or less years old.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there isn’t a world of difference between used and CPO vehicles. CPOs can give the customer the ease of mind knowing they’ll be safe and their vehicle will have minimal issues/repairs. Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are a safe option for less vehicle-saavy drivers, but still want to be conservative with their money. Used vehicles are a great option for customers who can work through minor issues, while saving themselves from breaking the bank. For years, car owners have made routine trips to their local gas station whenever their vehicle was low on fuel. With modern age electric vehicles increasing in popularity, the demand for electric vehicle charging stations increases as well, which is why you may have seen them taking up your favorite parking spot.
Electric Vehicle (EV) charging is a process of transferring energy from a power source to an electric vehicle’s battery. This is done by plugging the EV into a charging station and permitting it to transfer energy to the car’s battery. The charging process can take anywhere from 1 hour to multiple days, depending on the type of charging station and the size of the battery.
Whether you’re the owner of an EV or looking for more information on electric vehicle charging stations, here are a few things that will lead you to some answers.
How Does an EV Engine Work?
Electric vehicles gain electricity from the grid or power outlet they plug into, where the electricity is then stored in the car’s rechargeable battery. Once the battery is charged, it then powers the electric motor which causes the wheels to turn.
How Does a PHEV Engine Work?
Plug-in hybrid vehicles operate similarly to EVs. Like EVs, PHEVs use a rechargeable battery to store electricity and power the electric motor. Unlike EVs, PHEVs also use an alternative fuel source, such as gasoline, to power the vehicle’s Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). PHEVs will typically run on electric power until the battery is nearly depleted, then the vehicle will automatically switch over to the ICE.
How Electric Vehicle Charging Works
EV chargers work just like a charger you would use to charge your phone or laptop. First off, you plug the charging port into your EV or plug-in hybrid. The charger transfers the electrical current from either a 120-240-volt outlet or the grid it is hardwired to straight to your vehicle.
How Long Does Electric Vehicle Charging Take?
There are three different charging speeds for an electric vehicle or plug in hybrid.
Level 1 EV Charging
A level 1 charger provides power through a common residential 120-volt AC outlet. Level 1 chargers can take 40-50 hours to charge an electric vehicle (BEV) from empty to full, while they can take 5-6 hours to charge a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
Level 2 EV Charging
A level 2 charger provides power from a 208-volt (commercial) or 240-volt (residential) electrical service. Level 2 chargers can charge a BEV from empty to full in 4-10 hours, while a PHEV takes 1-2 hours.
Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC)
The fastest electric vehicle charging stations, direct current fast charging equipment, can charge a BEV to 80% full in 20 minutes to 1 hour. Most PHEV’s in the current don’t work with DCFC.
Can I Charge my Tesla at an Electric Vehicle Charging Station
Electric vehicle drivers need to be aware of the type of plug-in at each charging station. A J1772 plug is the standard EV charging plug-in for most EVs. However, all Tesla models require a different charging port. This means Tesla charging stations cannot be used on non-Tesla electric vehicles. Tesla charging adapters can be used on a J1772 plug. They are complementary with each Tesla or available for purchase online.
