2021 Toyota 4Runner Power and Capability

With each passing model year, the Toyota 4Runner becomes a rarer platform in the automotive industry. Not only is it one of the last true body-on-frame SUVs left in production, but it is also one of the only remaining out-of-the-box off-road-ready vehicles that can be taken out of a showroom and driven directly to the nearest trail system for some intense and dirty driving. Measuring the 2021 Toyota 4Runner for its power and capability will remind Lum’s Auto Center customers why they shouldn’t overlook this classic off-roading platform. Let’s take a look at a few things that potential buyers might find interesting.

2021 4Runner Official Performance Specs

Toyota might be one of the most innovative automakers on the planet, but they also know not to disturb a winning recipe. Every 2021 Toyota 4Runner for sale at Lum’s Auto Center will have a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter, V-6 engine under the hood that will be attached to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. It will produce 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. Two- and four-wheel-drive versions are available. Additionally, all models can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Since the 4Runner is built to get off the pavement, all trim grades will have a varying degree of off-road capability. However, Lum’s Auto Center customers that take getting their vehicles dirty very seriously will want to focus on the TRD-branded models. These trim grades will be the ones equipped with the right off-road features including a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select and CRAWL control.

Is the 2021 4Runner good for camping?

One of the areas where the competition falls short is interior volume. The 2021 4Runner is best configured to accommodate five passengers in its two rows of seats. However, a third row can be deployed if necessary. In the standard two-row configuration, there can be more than 47.2 cubic-feet of cargo volume while passengers are in the backseat. Folding those seating options away will open the rear of the 2021 4Runner up to 89.7 cubic-feet of cargo space, plenty of space for all the camping gear a weekend will require.
